St. Joseph’s Women’s Guild
* Sept. 12, 2017                                                                                                       
 *Welcome to the first meeting of the 2017-2018 year!The meeting was opened with a prayer by Noel. *Treasurer’s report said that our account has $4,003.14.                                                                       *The minutes from the May meeting were approved.
*The new board of officers met during the summer to share ideas and to begin planning the activities and events for this year.  President: Cary, Vice President: Linda, Treasurer: Kay, Secretary: Helen
*CSO meals are provided by the Women’s Guild on the second Wednesday of most months, the night after our meeting.  The sign-up list was circulated (and is included on Page 2) to allow at least three ladies to sign up per meal.  Suggestions are a meat dish, side dish, and dessert.  Kay provides drinks and paper goods and assists with serving.  (Sharon is available to sub for anyone on a meal.)
*The calendar of events is on the web site.                                                                                                       The main change for the calendar of events is:                                                          *Confirmation and reception will be Sun., October 15, instead of the previous date of November 19.  Bishop Kelly will preside at Mass and the Sacrament.
*A new program at St. Joseph’s is an art class taught by Alexandra for challenged members of our parish.  Six students attend the class.
*Special Project for this year:  In the planning for the new rectory, and the arrangement of CCD classes in the old rectory, the motion was made by Linda to devote funds toward new supplies for classrooms.  The motion was seconded by Cecily.
*Additional information for some meeting programs being planned for this year:                                  *Oct. 10 – Noel will demonstrate CPR and use of an AED device.     (Changed to Nov.)     **Nov. 14 – We will pray the Divine Chaplet and share a meal of international ethnic favorites from members' family heritage.  We will say farewell to Karol as this will be her last meeting.           (Changed to Oct.)                                                                                     
Dec. 12 – Christmas potluck and gift exchange at Joan’s house.                                                         Jan. 8 – This meeting may have to be changed to another night so we can enjoy a Zumba Gold class from Roger, the instructor at Commerce Fitness Center and the Greenville YMCA.

The meeting was called to order with a prayer by Noel

• The Treasury report was given – balance is $4343.37
• Discussion was held about a Confirmation Reception to be held after the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 23.  There are three adults who will be confirmed by Bishop Greg Kelly.  The reception will be held in the outside portico, as there will be CCD in the hall. 
  • Cary will see that 1 long table and 4 round tables are set up with tablecloths. 
  • Linda will provide red centerpieces for each table, along with punch. 
  • ALL Women Guild members are asked to bring two dozen cookies.  Note the kids will be coming through on their way to class, so lots of cookies are needed.Several members of the WG also teach class and will not be available to help, so if you are available to serve at the reception, THANKS!

• Women’s Guild members were asked by the K of C to bring cakes or cookies for their Easter cake walk, if possible (April 15)
• Lilies are to be delivered on Friday afternoon (April 14); Kay and Lettie will decorate on Saturday.
• We have a new slate of officers, on which we will vote at our next/last meeting (May 9), which will be held at Noel Bares house (directions will be forthcoming).

MINUTES from MARCH 7, 2017 Meeting  (meeting moved up one week because of Spring Break next week)

·         The meeting was called to order with a prayer by Noel

·         The Treasury report was given – balance is $4668.33

o   Valentine Collections $1200 tickets + $651.87 donation = $1851.87

o   Valentine Expenses turned in $40.90 (supplies) + $120 + $654.47 (meat) + $200 (CSO) = $1015.37

o   Valentine Dinner Profit $836.50

·         Discussion was held about St. Joseph Feast Day Breakfast to be held after the 9:30 a.m. Mass.  The following members volunteered to bring the following items:

o   Noel – raspberries & blackberries, milk

o   Linda – apples

o   Kay – applies

o   Helen – grapes

o   Cary – grapes, table decorations

o   Joan – strawberries & blueberries, tablecloths

·         Women’s Guild will provide a light dinner for after the Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 24.  The following members volunteered to bring the following items:

o   Noel – soup

o   Kay – soup

o   Linda – crackers

o   Joan – rolls

o   Cary – dessert; gallon of water; ice

·         Cary will order coffee packets (decaf & regular) for the hall

·         Noel gave a very informative demonstration/training on CPR/AED.  She also volunteered to train the CSO/HS students, if requested.

Minutes from January 10, 2017 Meeting

• Meeting was called to order with a prayer by Christina.
• Treasury amount is currently $3,688.59.
• Minutes were approved from December meeting.
• Because of the Valentine Dinner on the 12^th, we will purchase pizza & dessert for the CSO on the second Wednesday of February.
• There will be NO meeting in February.
• Noel B., Cecily C., and Kay W. are providing the meal for March.
• Dates to remember are:  Celebration of St. Joseph Feast Day – March 19 (we provide fruit); Soup Dinner for Parish – March 24

  EVERYONE should help promote the dinner and try to sell tickets, even outside the church family – just collect the $20/person ($40/couple) and ask how they want their meat cooked (Rare/Med/Well).  We can reserve them a spot and send them tickets as soon as you bring us the money.
• Noel was ill so her CPR/AED training for members was rescheduled to March.
• Christina provided prizes for Bingo and members enjoyed the evening with food and fun.

Minutes from December 13, 2016 Meeting

• The “Meeting” was held at Joan Lawrence’s house.
• Those attending were Joan, Charlene, Libby, Sharon, Cecily, Kay, Jean, Helen, Angie, Noel, Linda, and Cary with guest Natalie.  The Potluck and Christmas Gift Exchange were enjoyed immensely.
• Poinsettias for Christmas were ordered and a list of donations/those remembered were in the December 24-25 bulletin.
• Coffee-Donuts-Pictures with Santa was hosted for the parish on December 18, and was enjoyed by many.
• Money was collected for Father Marcus and Deacon Joe and presented at the Pictures with Santa.  The envelopes distributed were very well received with over $1200 collected:
• Several members met Monday, December 19 at the church and did a thorough cleaning, decorating the church afterwards.

• The meeting was closed with a prayer of Merry Christmas to all.   

Minutes from November 8, 2016 Meeting

• Meeting was called to order with a prayer.
• Members enjoyed a “Multicultural Potluck”, featuring dishes from members’ heritage, and shared this background with the other members.  Everyone enjoyed the delicious Mexican Bread Pudding and Fideo Pasta, Irish-Catholic Broccoli-Rice and Yellow-Apple Cake, Scottish Cookies, German Potatoes, Sausage Split-Pea Soup, Sauerkraut and Sausage, and Bierox, and Portuguese Rice Pudding.  Thanks, ladies, for sharing your delicious dishes with all. 
• Treasury amount is currently $3,549.86.
• Minutes were approved from October meeting.
• Libby S., Charlene S., and Linda L. are providing the meal for November 9.
• There will be no CSO meal for December 14 (students on break).
• Joan said that she talked to Natalie – there are no high school seniors attending CCD classes this year.  Therefore, there will be no scholarship awarded in 2016-17.
• Discussion of the washing of the linens was tabled to be discussed at a later meeting.
• The Bake Sale that we were going to hold on November 19-20 has been cancelled due to everyone’s busy schedules.  We will visit having a bake sale again in the Spring.
• Poinsettias for Christmas:
  • Joan has ordered the poinsettias for Christmas from the Greenville nursery.
  • Cary will put a notice in the November 26-27 bulletin information concerning Poinsettia donations in memory of loved ones; she will also have envelopes available for these donations.
  • Deadline for donations will be December 18; list of donations/those remembered will be in the December 24-25 bulletin and on the website.
• Coffee-Donuts-Pictures with Santa:
  • Cary will put a notice in the November 26-27 bulletin informing parishioners that we will not have a parish potluck this year, but will have “Coffee-Donuts-Pictures with Santa” on Sunday, December 18, after the 9:30 a.m. Mass.
  • Immediately after Mass on December 11, members will clean and decorate the hall for “Coffee-Donuts-Pictures with Santa” to be held the following Sunday on December 18.
  • Kay will order 7 dozen donuts and 3 dozen donut holes.
  • Noel will purchase 3 gallons milk.
  • Noel will ask Bill to be our “Santa” for pictures.
  • Cary will ask Natalie to take the pictures with Santa and be provided an e-mail list for people to receive copies of the pictures. 
  • Noel will get candy canes for Santa to give to the children.
  • DECEMBER 18, after the 9:30 a.m. Mass, we will have “Coffee-Donuts-Pictures with Santa”.
• Monetary Gift for Father Marcus and Deacon Joe:
  • Joan will print out envelopes requesting donations for Christmas gifts for Father Marcus and Deacon Joe. 
  • Envelopes will be distributed on December 3^rd & 4^th after Masses (need volunteers for Saturday December 3^rd). 
  • Deadline to return gifts in the collection baskets will be Sunday, December 18, at which time we will present them at the “Coffee-Donuts-Pictures with Santa”.
• Cleaning and Decorating the Church for Christmas:
  • Monday, December 19, members, who are able, will meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. to do a thorough cleaning.
  • After cleaning, members will decorate the church for Christmas.

• Our next meeting will be our “Christmas Gift Exchange” at the home of Joan Lawrence, with everyone bringing a dish and a $10-$20 gift.  Noel will e-mail members to see if Monday, December 12 or Tuesday, December 13 would provide a better opportunity for the most members to attend.

Meeting was called to order with a prayer.

• Members sang/recited the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy

• Minutes were read and approved from September meeting.

• Discussion was held concerning the cleaning of the church (before decorating for Christmas) and the washing of the linens (possible Helen or Joan – looking for another volunteer) – we will continue the discussion at November meeting.

• Joan asked about ordering poinsettias; it was decided to order as usual from Greenville nursery.  Cary will locate forms for poinsettia memory donations and bring to next meeting.
• Joan will prepare several scholarship applications and give them to Natalie for any seniors who wish to apply.
• Our next meeting will be a “Multicultural Potluck” with everyone bringing a dish representing their ancestral background to share with all.

• Members updated contact information and signed up for committees (attached)
• Members agreed that WG should help pay for ingredients for CSO meals since we are now serving 40+ students.  (Joan L., Noel B., and Cary R. are providing the meal for Sept. 14).
• The programs for the years meetings were discussed and planned:
  • October 11:                       Women’s Prayer Night (Recitation of the Divine Chaplet of Mercy)
  • November 8:                     Multicultural Potluck (everyone brings a dish representing their ethnicity or ancestral background).  All will share the background of their dish.

MINUTES FOR APRIL 12, 2016
Noel opened the meeting with a prayer.
   * The Treasury report was read by Kay.
   * The minutes were discusses from the March meeting.
   * Discussion was held concerning the receptions for both the confirmation and 1st communion weekends.  Chairperson, Joan Lawrence, assigned members to bring fruit for each reception; she will order cakes from Brookshires and Joan and Cary will bake extra sheet cakes in case they are needed;  Linda will provide the punch, decorations; Cary will bring ice.  Confirmation will be April 24 and First Communion will be May 8.
   * Nominations were taken for officers for next year.  Those nominated at the meeting were Noel Bares for President; Christina Clark for Vice President; Cary Roberts for Secretary, and Kay Webber for Treasurer.  IF ANYONE ELSE WOULD LIKE TO SERVE AS AN OFFICER NEXT YEAR, PLEASE CONTACT NOEL BEFORE THE MAY 10 MEETING.  We will vote at the May 10 meeting.

   *  Noel led the member in a very moving recitation/singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 9, 2016
 Noel opened the meeting with a prayer.

• The Treasury report was read by Kay.  Balance is currently $5,639.04.  Monies collected from the Valentine Dinner tickets is $1140.
• The minutes from the January meeting were read.  Sharon Hart motioned for approval, and Joan Lawrence seconded the motion.  All approved. 
• The Valentine’s dinner is on track for Sunday at 6:00 pm.  We have sold all 60 available tickets.   The committee will meet on Wednesday at 1:00 to begin decorating.
• It was suggested that in March, we have a Lenten Salad Social, open to all women of the parish.  We will suggest meeting together at 6:30 pm for Mass, then joining together for a  salad potluck, with handouts describing the activities of the Women’s Guild of our parish and a brief Lenten message.  This would be on Tuesday, March 8.
• We would like your input about the meetings being held on Tuesdays.  January and February have been pretty thin, but then that is not uncommon.  Hopefully, we will see many more of you next month.  Let us know if the “Tuesday” instead of Wednesday is a problem.
• Noel closed the meeting with a prayer. 
  Note information after the meeting:

• The Women’s Guild will provide a meal for the family of Lynn Bowman on this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the parish hall.
• The father of Angie Davis, Antonio Ayala, passed away yesterday (February 10).  Please remember him, Angie and the family in your prayers.

MINUTES FOR JANUARY 12, 2016

1. President Noel Bares opened the meeting with a prayer.
2. Kay Webber, Treasurer, gave the treasurer report - $4,279.35 balance
3. Cary Roberts, Secretary, provided the minutes from the November meeting.  Karol Fitzgerald motioned to approve the minutes and Sharon Hart seconded the motion.  All approved.
4. Discussion of the upcoming Valentine Dinner was held.  The dinner will be on SUNDAY, February 14, at 6:00 p.m.  Tickets will be sold on Jan. 23-24 and Jan. 30-31.  We like to have two persons on each date.  Members who can help sell should contact Cary.  So far, we have:
   Noel and Kay on Saturday, 23^rd;
   Linda and Carmen on Sunday, 24^th;
   Kay and Noel on Saturday, Saturday, 30^th; and
   Joan and Christina on Sunday, 31^st 
   The Valentine committee met on Sunday, Jan 10, and will meet again on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 5:00 – Joan’s house to finalize.  We will complete details at our February meeting.
5. The Women’s Guild has agreed to assist Kay with serving dinners to the CSO.  Because we had several casseroles left over from October CSO meeting and frozen, Kay will use those for the February CSO meeting.

MINUTES FOR NOVEMBER 10, 2015
*The meeting was opened with a prayer by Noel.
*Treasurer's Report:  Balance now - $3,726.31 after paying the $500. graduation scholarship. 
Correction to previous balance- should have been $3,887.70 instead of $4,387.70.
Supplies were bought for the blessing bags, coffee, reception supplies, etc.
*Members present read and discussed the October meeting minutes and a motion to accept the October minutes was made by Noel.  Seconded by Sharon.
*1st Sunday of Advent is November 29.
*Holiday Advent decorations can be put up in church on or before Saturday, November 28.
*Holiday prep committee:  Chair-Kay.  Ruth, Carmen,Linda Lettie, Sharon, Karol, Cary, Noel.
*Parish Christmas potluck dinner is Sunday, December 6. 
*Potluck committee: Chair - Noel.  Joyce, Sharon, Linda, Lettie, Helen.
We will have to take down the CCD class dividers after class on Sunday.
*Joyce will make the poster for the potluck dinner sign up.
*Gift envelopes for Father Marcus and Deacon Joe will be available for collecting on November 22 and November 29, in order to gift them at the parish potluck dinner.
*On December 20 after 9:30 Mass, the sanctuary can be decorated for Christmas.
*Joan has ordered the Christmas poinsettias now for delivery in December.  Parish members can make a donation for them in tribute to loved ones.
*Wednesday, November 11, is the date for Catholic Student Organization meeting with the meal prepared by the Women's Guild.  Joan and Kay will set up for that dinner tomorrow night.  They will heat casseroles and set out meal and dessert supplies.
*The next Catholic Student Organization dinner to be prepared by Women's Guild is for their December 9 meeting, on the date of our Women's Guild party.  Kay will use frozen casseroles already prepared. 
*Altar linens -Lettie and Sue Mitchell will learn how to prepare altar linens for Mass from Ruth.
*Ruth gave a presentation of her Good Shepherd CCD program. She demonstrated a lesson sequence example and explained the other stations in her class such as the pouring of water and wine during Mass.
*Also present at the meeting:  Bobbie McCrummen, Christina Clark, Joyce, Joan, Noel, Linda, Jean, Lettie, Sharon, Chip, Ruth, and Sue.
 *Next meeting of St. Joseph Women's Guild is Wednesday, December 9, at Joan's House for the Christmas potluck and gift exchange.

MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 13, 2015:

1. Vice President Joan Lawrence, opened the meeting with a prayer.
2. Kay Webber, Treasurer, gave the treasurer report - $4,387.70 balance
3. Cary Roberts, Secretary, provided the minutes from the September 8 meeting.Linda Lewis motioned to approve the minutes and Kay Webber seconded the motion.All approved.
4. It was announced that member Ruth Gorman and family plan to move to Japan in December.We will miss them all, and know it will be impossible to replace Ruth and her CCD instruction of the PK – K – 1^st grades, in addition to all her work with the altar linens, and her lovely smile and bubbly personality.Member Lettie Gillespie will meet with Ruth to see if she can take over some of the altar/linens duties.Anyone else who would like to work with the Altar Society (Ruth, Joan, Lettie and Sue) should talk to Joan and let her know.
5. The Women’s Guild has agreed to assist Kay with serving dinners to the CSO.Attendance is now very exciting with 20 to 30 + students attending weekly, but is difficult for Kay to prepare dinners each week for such a large number of students.Therefore, we will serve dinner the 2^nd Wednesday of each month (the night after our meetings).Cary and Joan brought four casseroles, bread, salad, and dessert for this Wednesday, October 14.Kay will warm the casseroles/bread prior to the meeting and be there to serve everything (Joan will come up and help).Linda Lewis, Lettie Gillespie, Noel Bares, and Helen Park have agreed to prepare food for the November meeting.(The K of C has been asked to provide dinner for the 1^st Wednesdays, the CDA have been asked for the 3^rd Wednesdays, and the Hispanic Group has been asked to provide dinners for the 4^th Wednesdays.)
6. Father is thinking of having a reception for All Souls Day, Monday, November 2.The time is not yet known, so I will e-mail you when I have the information.It would probably be a relatively small group since it is on a Monday.Cary has agreed to chair the reception; if you would like to help, just e-mail me after the time has been determined.
7. Next month (November meeting), Ruth will give members a demonstration of the “Good Shepherd” Montessori curriculum that she uses with her students.

9. Activity:“Blessing Bags” were assembled, and members who wished took some to use when needed.More bags are available for any members not in attendance – just ask one of the officers.

Hi Cary, I am sorry I haven't had time to email. But we moved back to Angelo. I truly miss the group because it made me be a part of something with women who were devoted to God. Thank you for the time we shared.

MINUTES FOR SEPTEMBER 8, 2015:
 

1. President Noel Bares opened the meeting with a prayer.
2. Bill Mulcahy, KofC Grand Knight, presented Noel and the Women’s Guild with a check for $1000 as our part of the three-group held garage sale in August.

4. Kay Webber, Treasurer, gave the treasurer report - $3,247.70 balance (before $500 scholarship for Jennifer Mojica – not yet requested, before dues collected, and before $1,000 garage sale funds); Sara Arce sent the Women’s Guild a thank you for her $500 scholarship received last year.
5. Cary Roberts, Secretary, summarized the minutes from the August 14 organization meeting.
6. Dues of $10 were collected from numerous members (Kay has list of paying members)
7. The 2015-16 WG calendar and committee signup sheet was passed around for members to sign-up for the committees of their choice.
8. Members updated their contact information.
9. Angie Davis gave an update on the Mexico project that the Women’s Guild assisted with several years ago.The community is thriving and having success in educating girls who otherwise would have no opportunity to advance.Thanks Angie!
10. Charlene Scott proposed an idea of creating “Blessing Bags” to distribute to persons in need (those persons on the side of the road asking for handouts, nursing homes, etc.).We will work together at one of our meetings to make these bags!  Great idea, Charlene!

MINUTES FOR OFFICERS ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING AUGUST 14, 2015:

1. Officers (Noel Bares – President, Joan Lawrence – Vice President, Cary Roberts – Secretary, and Kay Webber – Treasurer) met at Joan’s house on August 14.
2. The calendar was determined with dates and events discussed.
3. Program ideas were discussed.They include:
4. Angie Davis’ trip to China (date TBD);
5. Organizational meeting (Tuesday, September 8);
6. Potluck at Joan’s house (Wednesday, December 9 – ^th);
7. Bingo (Tuesday, January 12);
8. Final Valentine Dinner preparations (Tuesday, February 9)
9. End-of-Year Meeting/Potluck at Joan’s house (Tuesday, May 10)
   Suggestions for programs on October, November, March, and April meetings will be requested.
10. Dues will remain $10 per person per year.
11. Officers will organize the cleaning of the hall, when necessary.
12. Possible Lenten suppers of sandwiches or soup (no desserts) on February 19, March 4, and March 18 after Stations of the Cross.Ask Knights to do one, Catholic Daughters of Americas to do one, and Women Guild to do the other.Noel has Gregorian chant music for background.Noel will talk to other organizations to see if they are interested.

MINUTES FOR MAY 13, 2015:
 

• The meeting was opened with a prayer.
• It was decided that Joan will present the two $500 scholarships this coming Sunday, May 17, to Jennifer Mojica and Sara Arce.
• Joyce Vargas was thanked again for a job well done, and presented with a gift to show our appreciation.
• The new officers will begin their tenure beginning June 1, 2015.
